Do You Get It?

Positively No Negativity Challenge

Day 37 of 84

A question for you-

There are a few things about human behaviour that mystify me. They are total contradictions and they make me chuckle each time I hear about a new one.

Let me explain.

I know of two people who were recently admitted to the hospital, one for a stroke and the other for major abdominal surgery. Each of them wants to be left alone to heal in peace, with just a close family member visiting each day. Some acquaintances want to go and visit them, but they don’t particularly want any visitors. Those people are a little put out by this. I don’t know why; they are not close friends or family and they are not up to speed on the patients’ lives. Except now.

So here you have two people in the hospital in compromised positions, vulnerable and at their weakest. Why would others want to come and visit when they never consider visiting these people when they feel fine and are at home?

I just don’t get it.

And then there are the people who would never, never buy a used mattress because there might be something alive in it, and because they don’t want to sleep on a mattress that someone else has used. The thing is, they go and stay at a hotel without ever thinking that there are possibly hundreds of people of uncertain identity and character that have slept on it.

Can you explain that to me??

There is also a church I attended while traveling not too long ago. The people used to shake everyone’s hand as a sign of peace and welcome at a certain part of the service. They don’t do that anymore because they’re afraid to catch something. So now they just give a spoken word of peace. And yet these very same people will go to a store and handle money that who knows who has touched and handled, and then they go and use a public toilet.

It’s a strange world we live in, don’t you think?

 Today I am grateful for:

1. My old friend Irene who called yesterday

2. The good health I have right now

3. Fresh fruit and vegetables in my fridge

4. Anticipation of a sunny day

5. Sharing supper with new friends last evening
