Wisdom From My Dad

Positively No Negativity Challenge

Day 12 of 84

One of the most positive people I know is my Dad. At 87 years old he is happy and thankful for every day. Dad gets up at the same time every morning and then does a little weight training. After that he goes on the treadmill for 15 minutes (and he would put most of us to shame!) Then he drinks his Barley Life as he has done for the past 20+ years. After that he sits down for breakfast, the same routine every day: banana with yogurt and natural honey followed by 15 almonds, and then he finishes up with shredded wheat and milk. He keeps his mind sharp by reading, playing bridge a couple of times a week and doing the crossword puzzle every day.

Dad still plays golf regularly with my Mom and they still go to Florida every year. Here they are on their 60th wedding anniversary!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOn a recent trip to Newfoundland to visit my parents, I asked my dad to what he attributes his longevity and good health. He told me that it is partly genes, but it’s also:

1. Keep moving and

2. Stay away from negative people.

The saying “misery loves company” is entirely true. That’s why you need to choose friends who are optimistic and happy themselves, as you will be surrounded with positive energy.

Yesterday was a great day!

Here’s what made me happy and grateful:

1. A most touching letter that brought tears to my eyes

2. A quiet prayer in the morning

3. A Big Bang Theory episode that I hadn’t already seen

4. Coffee with an old friend

5. Having parents that are such a good example of positive and healthy living.

Have a POSITIVELY GREAT Saturday!

  1. Great picture of your parents, Chris. They don’t look their age.

An amazing picture of your parents. For the few times we met them we can truly say they are an inspiration to us as well.
